Airbag Control Module

The airbag control module, found in most passenger cars on the road today, is a key source of data for reconstructing an accident. The airbag control module (also known as a Black Box) and Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) unit are constantly monitoring a vehicle in anticipation of an airbag deployment. When the airbags deploy, the airbag control module can document key data just before the incident.

Data from an airbag control module includes vehicle speed, brake status, seat belt status, and acceleration. The data must be retrieved using specialized software and cables. This data can be used, together with all other available data, in an accident reconstruction.
