Human Factors

Armstrong’s staff analyzes human performance and safety related to products, activities, and systems. Human factor analysis looks at elements such as memory, perception, dexterity, and judgment as they relate to human interaction with products and systems. Armstrong’s staff is knowledgeable in the latest research and literature related to human factors and ergonomics.

The International Ergonomics Association states:

Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data, and other methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.

Human factors are an important component of transportation safety. The publication Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society states, “The physics of collisions limit the benefits of increased crashworthiness, future safety improvements depend on improving drivers’ ability to avoid collisions.”

Armstrong’s human factors practice reviews:
  • Perception and reaction time
  • General perception
  • Daytime visibility and nighttime visibility
  • Driver performance
  • Automotive safety systems
  • Pedestrian collisions
  • Gap acceptance
  • Positive guidance and expectations
  • Alcohol and drug effects on driving
